Phase 1B - ☒CHIPS
In Phase 1B of the program students will receive two party balloon mission packs and one ground station kit to collect data from up to 5km up in the air.
The Ground Station Kit is to connect and communicate with the party balloon satellite in the air and retrieve data.
The Ground Station Kit includes:
1 x Programmer xCHIP
This xCHIP adds power to the satellite via USB
Alternatively, program the CW01 xCHIP in Python, Lua or Arduino/C/C++
1 x Radio w/antenna
This xCHIP is used to be able to connect to the balloon via a radio signal
1 x WIFI xCHIP
This xCHIP can be programmed to connect to the Internet
Connectors are used to connect all the different xCHIPS together.
Balloon Mission Kit (WeatherSat) includes:
2 x Balloons
2 x Parachutes
2 x Weather Sensor xCHIPS
This xCHIP is used to take temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure readings
2 x Light Sensor xCHIPS
This xCHIP is used to measures UVA, UVB and visible light
2 x Radio w/antenna
This xCHIP is used to be able to connect to the Ground Station via a radio signal
The radios transmits on the license free ISM band (915 MHz) and the balloon mission is exempt from the FAA part 101 regulation since the payload weighs less than 4 lbs.
2 x Power Source xCHIPS
Dual AA battery xCHIP (batteries not included)
2 x GPS xCHIPS
This xCHIP is used to track your balloon and be able to retrieve it again
2 x IMU xCHIPS
This xCHIP is used to measure movement
2 x Burn Wire xCHIPS
This xCHIP can be programmed to let the balloon go and open the parachute at a certain time
The connectors are used connect all the different xCHIPS together.
